ABOUT - Username/URL Abuse or Squatting:

kenzie-says:

If you have ever seen a URL or username being visibly hoarded, or a blog with empty content on it (and you trust your instincts that it is being hoarded in this case), report it to Tumblr.  - OR, if you have seen a user post collages or lists of URLs they are hoarding currently, report it to Tumblr.

Now let me tell you why username/URL abuse is bad, selfish, and unfair to other users. They’re meant for the use and enjoyment of all users. Hoarding URLs limits the amount of URLs others could be using actively.

“Don’t squat, hoard, amass, accumulate, accrue, stockpile, rack up, buy, trade, sell, launder, invest in, ingest, get drunk on, cyber with, grope, or jealously guard Tumblr usernames/URLs.” - Community Guidelines

Now, you may not think you’re being selfish, and of course, nobody is telling you that, but hoarding and squatting or stockpiling (however you want to put it) is just plain gross. But something I can’t get my mind around is that many of those who “collect” URLs do it for money. Yes, real life currency for usernames.

People also BUY them and TRADE them for other URLs, but under their own rules. Some users want canon URLs, one-word URLs, 3 digit URLs and other oddly specific terms in order to obtain them. And to top it off, they can also simply not be interested and deny the trade or sale. But you need to remember this is still very much against the rules.

The bottom line is if you see a URL trading URLs (that you or others may want, the reasoning isn’t necessary) or any of the above guidelines, REPORT THEM.

I would never think to post this casually, but this has gotten to a point where it is so ridiculous that this must be posted.
